Anna (Anne) Preston was born in Seattle and grew up in the University District as her father was Dean of the UW School of Business and Economics. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and then Whitman College, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She married Fred Greaves in 1948. They were long-time residents of Magnolia where they were active in the Magnolia United Church of Christ. Anne was also active in PTA, a Children’s Hospital guild, and with Phi Mu alumni. She was a strong supporter of Boy Scouting and was proud that all her sons became Eagle Scouts.
Anne was preceded in death by husband of 65 years Fred G. Greaves Jr., infant son David, parents Howard H. and Lucy (Steele) Preston, and brother Frank Preston. She is survived by sons Richard (Jeannine), James (Susan Feichtmeir), Mark, and Doug Greaves, stepdaughter Leslie (Max) Radloff, grandchildren Michael (Amy), David, Daniel, and Ali Marie Greaves, great-grandchildren Ella, Anna, and Henry Greaves, and sisters Mary Belle Wells and Jeanne Crose.
Anne is remembered by her family for a good sense of humor and as a good mother to her children, good aunt to her nephews and niece, and good grandmother. She and Fred enjoyed travel and especially enjoyed spending time at their beach home on Whidbey Island.
Anne’s later years were negatively impacted by dementia. Her family gives special thanks to her caregivers at Magnolia Home Care. At this time there is no public memorial service scheduled. Remembrances are suggested to: Howard and Lucy Preston Endowed Scholarship in Business Finance, UW Foster School of Business; Magnolia United Church of Christ; Seattle Children’s Hospital; or Chief Seattle Council of Boy Scouts.
Mom, rest in peace.
